Most of the above costs are unavoidable, but it is possible to do without the cabinet and countertop and thereby bring the cost below $500 (Cdn). The glass stillhead, the really critical item, will have to be made by a professional glassblower near you, and the exact specifications are provided in the book which you can take to him.
